One verifiable checkpoint in front of every legal AI tool.

The AI-tool attestation gateway is where RankShield Legal is going next: your firm points its AI tools — research assistants, drafting copilots, agentic workflows — through a single verifiable checkpoint, and every AI-assisted action leaves a signed citation and privilege-isolation attestation. This capability is in active development; this page describes the direction, not a shipped feature.

Firms are adopting a dozen AI tools with no common accountability layer. Each vendor has its own logs, its own confidentiality terms, and no way to prove to a court what happened across all of them. The direction RankShield Legal is building toward is a neutral gateway: the tools do the work, RankShield produces the verifiable record — the agent-governance layer the legal-AI market does not yet have.

What the gateway is designed to do

The concept extends the two capabilities already running — citation certification and privilege-isolation attestation — from a per-filing checkpoint to a per-action one. When an approved AI tool takes a consequential step, the gateway can attest that cited authorities were resolved and that privileged material was isolated, binding each action to the tool’s identity, the governing policy, and consent, then sealing it to the transparency log.

The building blocks are standards, not a private scheme: IETF RATS for the attestation architecture, RFC 9421 for signing tool requests, and the same post-quantum signing and RFC 6962 log the platform uses today.

Why this matters for a small firm

A large firm can staff an AI-governance committee and build internal controls. A ten-lawyer firm cannot — but it faces the same Rule 11 duty and the same client audit demands. A shared, verifiable gateway is how enterprise-grade AI governance reaches a firm that could never build it in-house.

Honest status

  • This is a roadmap capability, not a live product surface. We describe it so design-partner firms can shape it.
  • The primitives it depends on — certification and attestation — are built and running today; the gateway is the integration layer being designed on top of them.
  • Nothing here attests a legal conclusion. It attests architecture, isolation, and consent, exactly as the shipped capabilities do.
